TheAnglepan1.JPG (51073 bytes)

The Angle.  A panoramic view compiled from five photos.  The view begins looking south on Hancock Ave. on the left, continues past the "Copse of Trees" beyond the cannon in the foreground, and ends with a view west on the right.  "The Angle" itself is where the stone wall turns south at the tree near the left side of the photo.  The Codori Farm is to the left of the large stone monument  marking The Angle.   Follow the line of the stone wall on the left side of the photo across the fields to the Virginia Monument topped by Lee at the far treeline (the white spot in the photo).

SM-1.jpg (54866 bytes)

Looking southwest toward The Angle (monument near tree left of center in photo).  The red barn of the Codori Farm is visible among the trees in the center of the photo, beyond the fences.   (photo by Jim Lamason)

Angle-from-Tower1.JPG (28543 bytes)

This view of the the field of Pickett's Charge was taken from the National Tower back in 1976.  The Cyclorama building is the rather large light-colored cylindrical shaped building near the right edge of the photo.   The road just beyond the Cyclorama is Hancock Avenue.  The Angle is just off Hancock Ave. near the center of the photo.  The Charge began at the treeline on the far side of the striped fields.  The Virginia Monument is at the treeline near the right edge of the photo.  Meade's HQ is the small white building at the intersection near the lower center of the photo.

Angle-from-Tower-CU1.JPG (53942 bytes)

This is a close-up view of The Angle, with the Codori Farm just beyond, taken with a telephoto lens from the National Tower in 1976 (the central portion of the photo above).  The road nearest the bottom of the photo is Hancock Ave.  The Angle is marked by the stone monument at the end of the road which forms the loop off of Hancock Ave. (near the single tree right of loop).  The loop road has since been removed, its location is visible as the darker grass in the panorama taken by Jim Lamason in April 2000.  Gen. Meade's monument is visible near the bottom center of the photo.  The red buildings of the Codori Farm are partly hidden by the cluster of trees near the center of the photo.   The Emmitsburg Road runs through the center of the photo from left to right. Don't be misled by the apparent distance from the Angle to the Codori Farm, the optical effects of the telephoto lens have foreshortened the distance.

Tower-SW.JPG (31490 bytes)

Another view from the National Tower taken in 1976.  This view is looking approximately SSW.  Meades HQ is visible at the intersection of Hunt Ave. and Taneytown Road near the lower right corner of the photo.  The tree-covered Big Round Top protrudes above the horizon line in the near distance, Little Round Top is difficult to discern due to the trees.
HancockWound.jpg (75006 bytes) The site of General Winfield Scott Hancock's wounding on Cemetery Ridge, the Codori Barn is in the background.
PaMon--2.jpg (79604 bytes) The Pennsylvania Monument, after restoration and renovation 2002-2003.
